70th Anniversary
GIMPASO opened in 1955 and, despite facing disasters such as the Isewan Typhoon, has reached its 70th anniversary thanks to the support of countless guests, the local community, and our staff.
70 years of gratitude and connection, woven together with this community
A look back at GIMPASO’s history alongside the changing times. For 70 years, we have cherished our guests’ voices and nurtured a spirit of hospitality.

Opened in 1955 on a site overlooking the beautiful sea of Gamagori, GIMPASO welcomed many guests as a seaside inn. In 1959, despite severe damage from the Isewan Typhoon, the inn was rebuilt together with its staff.

Valuing our guests’ voices, we were quick to add private baths and toilets to our rooms. From 1966 onward, GIMPASO became a chosen venue for professional shogi matches, developing into the "Shogi Inn," hosting as many as 93 championship games thanks to our guests’ appreciation of our hospitality.

Continuing to offer a comfortable stay, GIMPASO kept refining its appeal by renovating to match the needs of the times. In December 2011 we opened "Shunkei Dining AO," a teppanyaki restaurant to enjoy ingredients and scenery with all five senses, and in 2017 the "Premium Lounge SORA" opened on the top floor for a select few guests.

In 2022, "Akari Dining Urara," a new dining venue, and "Sea Terrace Kurapoti," a relaxed space with the sound of waves, were completed. In 2023, some guest rooms were converted into satellite offices, and the public bath was renovated into "Onsen Cafe si no no me," marking a new challenge.

Cherishing the spirit of hospitality carried since our founding, we will keep welcoming you with our breathtaking views, hot springs, and signature cuisine. Through our beloved select shop and pop-up stores, we will continue to share the appeal of this region while striving to become an inn that lasts 100 years.
