70 Years Since Founding
A Long-Established Inn New Challenge

GIMPASO began in 1955 with just four guest rooms. Weathering typhoons and other setbacks, the inn pioneered en-suite baths and toilets ahead of its time, building a reputation as a distinguished ryokan. Its appeal lies in savoring breathtaking hot springs and the flavors of Mikawa with all five senses — and as the “Shogi Inn” that has hosted more than 90 championship title matches, including the Osho and Meijin tournaments, GIMPASO now embarks on a new challenge.

The new office now occupies the third-floor guest rooms of the annex, built on the very spot where the original four rooms of GIMPASO once stood. While preserving the inn's Japanese character to the fullest, natural materials and colors drawn from Gamagori's landscape have been woven into the space, creating the feeling of working amid Gamagori nature itself.

The genkan entry space that once led from the ryokan corridor into each guest room has also been extended into the office, forming a shared, in-between corner where you can approach your desk without removing your shoes.

A distinctive, oversized L-shaped desk lets you work from any angle or posture, anchored by a “panorama-view desk” that takes in the full sweep of the Mikawa Bay scenery through the window. Stone- and mortar-textured plasterwork adds a further sense of natural depth.
